LP Blast Block for Bass Drummers

Marching band directors and bass drummers often complain that their bass drum hoops that are split, cracked, and broken. This common problem occurs with excessive playing on the hoops with the shaft of the bass drum mallets. Many drummers use the wooden hoops to keep time, "ghost" a rhythm, or add a rim shot effect to the music. Although more and more bass drummers are using this effect, it often leads to the frequent replacement of bass drum hoops. One solution that will keep everyone happy and create a new musical voice is the addition of the LP Blast Block.

Add both musical and visual color with these new sounds (LP305 High Pitch-Yellow, LP 307 Low Pitch-Green). When used in conjunction with marching snare or multi-tom rim shots, the LP BLAST BLOCK adds another layer of explosive punch. The rounded surface of the instrument reduces both the deterioration of the mallet as well as the problematic chipping and cracking of the bass drum hoop.

The LP328 Sliding Bass Drum Mount lets you place the LP BLAST BLOCK in the correct playing position for easy contact with the shaft of the bass drum mallet (see photo). The double eye-bolt clamps hold the rod securely and the rubber lined clamp will help protect the finish of the hoop. It can be mounted so that the player can use either the right hand, left hand, or even put one on each side of the drum! It is easy to attach and remove for travel or when you put the bass drum into its case.

"Bass Blast" is a drum cadence written exclusively for the marching bass drum section. It features both high and low pitched BLAST BLOCKS (players 1 & 2 use high blocks, players 3 & 4 use low blocks). Use these blocks in place of playing on the bass drum hoop to create a distinctive multi-timbre groove and to provide the bass drum section as well as the entire band with new opportunities of musical expression and impact.
