Maria
Martinez is originally from Camaguey, Cuba and was raised in New Orleans,
Louisiana. She is a respected drummer, percussionist, clinician and
educator. Martinez pursues an active fre-lance career performing
and sharing stage/studio with such artists as El Chicano, Rita Coolidge,
Trini Lopez, Angela Bofill, Klymaxx, Emmanuel, Barry White, Nel Carter
and Johnny Paycheck. Her television and recording appearances include
The Late Show, The Drew Carey Show, Dukes of Hazzard, No Borders CD,
Soul Train and many others.
Martinez is the author of several educational publications, including
Brazilian Coordination for Drumset, Afro-Cuban Coordination for Drumset
(DVD, video and book/CD packages) and Instant Guide to Drum Grooves,
Rudimental Warm-Ups, (book/CD packages). World Beat Rhythms: Brazil,
Africa and Cuba book/CD packages are all published by Hal Leonard.
In addition, Maria is the content editor for the Poncho Sanchez video
entitled Fundamentals of Latin Music for the Rhythm Section published
by CherryLane.
