Pakito BaezaPakito Baeza has been an educator/independent percussionist at Spain’s Alicantes University since 1996. He learned Afro-Cuban percussion from Armanda Garcia Perez, who taught at the Ignacio Cervantes Institute of Cuba.

Pakito specializes in and records with artists from flamenzo and jazz-fusion genres, such as Brown Jorge, Rubem Mooses, Ximo Tebar, Mingo D’Acosta, Lou Bennett, Juan Munguia (Irakere), and Paco de Lucia in Spain. He also plays percussion with the Narcissus Medina dance company of Cuba, featuring dancer Lino Zorilla. Pakito also accompanies Compay Segundo, Raul Towers, Marta Fields (Nova Trova Cubana), Manu Tenorio (O.T.), Safri Duo, and Matipen (Forum BCN).

Among his credits are teaching a master class in “Percuba 98” (La Havana) with Roberto Vizcaino, Pedro Vega, Lalillo, and Enrique Pla (Irakere). That year, he also studied and played at the Berklee College of Music with Giovanni Hidalgo and Walfredo de los Reyes. He also played with Mike Mossman, Brad Melhaud, Chuck Silverman, Deborah Carpenter, and Bruce Barth at V-Festival Internacional de Jass de Cullera in Spain.

Pakito Baeza currently teaches clinics and master classes as an artist/LP artist in various cities throughout Spain, and also records with DJs and dance music producers.
