Nick
Bailey is one of Europe's most versatile percussionists, constantly
switching between different styles of music, with his own extremely
visual style of performance playing a big part in many of his musical
situations.
His performing and recording credits include Riverdance, Celtic Woman,
Charlotte Church, Tommy Fleming, and Stockton's Wing, as well as numerous
freelance projects, and film scores such as "The Water Giant",
and Spike Milligan's "Puckoon".
One of Nick's most important projects is EXTREME RHYTHM, his own high-impact
percussion ensemble, of which he is MD and Frontman. His unique
style of writing for percussion constantly pushes the boundaries between
Celtic, Japanese, and African percussion, and along with maniacal yet
scrupulous choreography, is an almost primal experience.
Nick uses a huge array of LP
instruments from across the entire catalogue,
and considers each and every one of them vital to his creativity, and
ultimately to the sound of whatever band or musical situation he is
the driving force behind.
"It's important to me that my instruments must always look and
sound amazing, and they must be durable enough to withstand the intensity
of my playing and my hectic touring schedule ... LP instruments possess
all these qualities, and so much more ... LP instruments are
a way of life!"
Nick's current gig is the hugely successful CELTIC WOMAN, which has
broken many records since its debut album in 2005. The percussion
seat is very heavily featured throughout the show, and Nick is currently
working on a third Celtic Woman DVD (to be recorded during downtime)
before heading back out on yet another World Tour.
