 Born in Oakland, California, and raised in the San Francisco bay area, legendary funk drummer and LP artistr, David Garibaldi began playing drumsat the age of ten. By seventeen, David had begun his professional career,
and in 1966 he enlisted in the United States Air Force where he became a member of the 724th USAF band stationed at McCord Air Force Base in Tacoma, Washington.
Upon leaving the military in 1969, David returned to the bay area, and in the summer of 1970 joined the fabled Tower of Power. It was in this setting that David became one of the most influential drummers of his generation, and also became known as an innovator in funk drumming. David has appeared in a variety of studio and live settings, including television and film. His credits include work with Patti Austin, Natalie Cole, Larry Carlton, Mickey Hart's Planet Drum, Jermaine Jackson, Ray Obledo, the Buddy Rich
Orchestra, Boz Scaggs, Talking Drums, Gino Vanelli, Deniece Williams, the Yellowjackets, and Wishful Thinking.
Over the last couple of years, David has been working with "Doc" Kupka as the drummer in "Doc's" special project, The Strokeland Superband. Recently, he toured with the singer, RAD, who featured the horn section from Tower of Power on one of her CD's. In 1998, David rejoined Tower of Power for "some unfinished business", and continues to tour with them. For five years running, from 1980 until 1985, and again in 2003 David won the "R&B/Funk" drummer category in Modern Drummer Magazine's Annual Reader's Poll. He now resides permanently in that poll's honor roll category for his lasting
contributions to the percussive arts.
Garibaldi is also a member of Afro-Cuban/funk drum ensemble Talking Drums, which includes fellow LP artist Michael Spiro along with Jesus Diaz.
