New
Jersey native Orlando Vega started playing congas at the age of four
with his father, Will Vega. Will also taught Orlando how to play bongos
and at the age of 12 and bought him his first LP instrument, a pair
ofLP Matador
bongos.
Soon after, Orlando began playing bongos locally with his father’s
band, "Will Vega & Friends". When Orlando reached the
age of 15 he joined a local band named "Son Latino".
Orlando arrived on the New York scene at the age of 18 playing bongos with Eddie Palmieri. Since then, Orlando has performed with Huey Dunbar, Charlie Cruz, Justo Betancourt, Luisito Carrion, Cano Estremera, and Brenda K. Starr. "I love to play Salsa and Latin Jazz music and plan to branch out in to Pop and R&B," he says.
Orlando's
inspirations include his father, Wilmer Vega, as
well as Tito Puente, Johnny
Rodriguez, Jr., Jose "Juicy" Jusino, Eric
Velez, Little

Delgado, Carlos "Patato" Valdez,
and, of course, Giovanni
