JAMES CAMPBELL

JAMES CAMPBELLA respected figure in the development of the contemporary percussion ensemble, James Campbell is also recognized world-wide as an accomplished performer, teacher, composer, and author. He has toured extensively throughout North America, Asia, and Sweden. Currently a Professor of Music and Director of Percussion Studies at the University of Kentucky in Lexington, Campbell, also holds the position of Principal Percussionist with the Lexington Philharmonic and serves as President of the Percussive Arts Society.

During his long association with the Rosemont Cavaliers Drum and Bugle Corps, Campbell has served as their principal instructor, arranger, and program coordinator. He has also served as Percussion Director for the McDonald’s All-American High School Band, and has performed at the International Society of Music Education World Conference, the MENC National In-Service Conference, the Midwest Band and Orchestra Clinic, MusicFest Canada, the All-Japan Band Clinic, the Texas Bandmasters Association, Bands of America World Percussion Symposium, and at several Percussive Arts Society International Conventions.

His publishing accomplishments include works for concert and marching percussion with Hal Leonard Publishing, C. L. Barnhouse Co., C. Alan Publications, Innovative Percussion, and Row-Loff Productions. He has recently released a new collection of snare drum solos titled Rudiments in Rhythm with Meredith Music.

Campbell is also a member of Latin Percussion's Educational Advisory Board.
