Tommy Igoe's Birdland Big Band
Performs Every Friday Night in nyc!

Tommy Igoe and his Birdland Big Band

Tommy Igoe and the Birdland Big Band have often been described as New York's must-see big band. Recently I was lucky enough to catch the show. Definitely, Tommy is a charismatic bandleader and drummer with a powerful group.

Igoe’s 16-piece band features some of the hottest Jazz musicians on the scene today. From the first note their music captures your attention. The group played a variety of original and classic compositions for two hours. An amazingly tight band whose passionate music makes you feel good! And, by the audience’s reactions, Tommy's drumming and musicianship boosts spirits and makes for a fun filled night-out.

If you are planning a visit to NYC, add this performance to your agenda. If you are lucky enough to live in the NY metro area, I highly recommend catching the show. Birdland Jazz Club is conveniently located in mid-town. The weekly Friday night show starts at 5:15, for reservations call 212.581.3080. A great way to jump-start the weekend, the club’s food and ambiance are top-notch.

If you simply can’t make it to the club, don’t despair you can buy it on DVD and CD. For a preview of the show, click here!

Cyro Baptista's beat the Donkey performs in NJ

Cyro Baptista's beat the Donkey performs in NJ

Cyro Baptista and his band, Beat the Donkey, recently performed at the Ciccone Theater at Bergen Community College in Paramus, NJ, to an extremely enthusiastic crowd. Beat The Donkey is a multicultural, polyphonic, highly creative and entertaining group that takes rhythms beyond their natural frontiers and creates a brand of music too innovative and varied to be labeled.

Beat the Donkey allows Cyro to combine his musical skills, natural humor and theatrical talents with instruments from Brazil, the Middle East, Indonesia, Africa and the U.S. The group also incorporates dance from Indonesian Gamelan to Tap Dance to Brazilian Capoeira. The band’s musicians wear elaborate costumes and hail from countries throughout the world. The first Beat the Donkey recording was chosen by The New York Times as one of the ten best alternative albums of 2002.
