A club so famous that a play was written about it, its jingle so catchy that
nearly everyone can hum it and an unforgettable Carmen Miranda type logo etched
into our minds .... the Copacapana.
A cultural icon that is an integral part of the city.
The new Cobacapana is, in many ways, modeled after the original nightclub
with its pronounced art deco atmosphere. It is conveniently located near the
Javits Center on West 34th Street in Manhattan. The club promotes Latin entertainment
and features three elegant levels, the main ballroom, and upper and lower tiers
with live DJs.
Recently LP donated a set of LP
Tito Puente Bronze Timbales to benefit a fund raiser for the children
of East Harlem, which was being hosted at the Copacabana. I was lucky enough
to attend the “El Barrio” All Stars Extravaganza with my good
friend, Norina Morales. (The late Noro Morales' daughter.) Thanks to the
event’s organizer Tiffany Wright, we were lucky enough to get a table
in the VIP section overlooking the dance floor. The place had an exciting
vibe about it, great dancing and music ... a perfect way to unwind and spend
a Friday evening.
From traditional Salsa bands to the unforgettable Latin jazz of Eddie Palmieri,
LP had a stellar line up of endorsers and friends, including:
Harry
Adorno
José Clausell
George Delgado
Armando Fajardo
José Mangual,
Jr.
Eddie
Montalvo
Pablo "Chino" Nuñez
Lil
Johnny Rivero
Johnny "Dandy" Rodriguez
True to form, LP Founder Martin Cohen was on hand
to photograph the event. For complete photo coverage, please visit congahead.com.
