Born in the city of Pasto, Colombia, Alexandra Alban’s musical career began as a trumpet player in several different musical groups in her home city. Soon, she was also singing and participating at national level competitions in which she won numerous awards.
Alexandra traveled to Cali, Colombia to start her career as a percussionist, where she joined several female musical bands. One was the Canela Band, which enabled her to be recognized in the music industry as a percussionist while performing in different parts of the world. Alexandra was also a member of the distinguished Colombian group, Kema. The band’s internationally recognized Colombian trumpet player and producer Jose Aguirre invited Alexandra to record as a singer and percussionist on several of his group’s productions.
During Alexandra’s extensive musical trajectory, she has had the opportunity to perform and record with artists at the national and international level. Among her more recent recordings was with the renowned Puerto Rican flute player Nestor Torres, on his recent Latin Jazz Album Nouveau Latino, which was nominated to the Grammy and Latin Grammy Awards for best album in its category.
Some of the notable artists that Alexandra has worked with include Maelo Ruiz, Tito Nieves, Jerry Rivera, Luisito Carrion, Ray Sepulveda, Ray De La Paz and Henry Fiol, to name a few. She has also had the opportunity to work on Alberto Barros’ recording “Tribute to Colombian Salsa”, which won two Gold Discos for sales in Mexico.
Currently, Alexandra is a percussionist and singer for New Wine, the musical group for King Jesus International Ministry, one of the biggest and fastest growing Hispanic churches in the United States.
