Cassio Duarte was born in Southern Brazil, where he started playing in marching bands and neighborhoods Samba schools at age 13. He later moved to Rio de Janeiro to study at the Villa Lobos School of Music and work with Brazilian stars like Moraes Moreira, João Bosco and Djavan. He also took private lessons in the State of Bahia in Brazil, where Afro-Brazilian roots are strong.
His search for knowledge of different styles brought him to Los Angeles in 1991, where he developed a career as an active studio musician for movie soundtracks and albums, working with people like Toots Thielemans, Lee Ritenour, Sergio Mendes, Strunz & Farah, Brenda Russell, Angelique Kidjo, Googoosh, Paul Winter, and many others . He also has experience teaching at places like Sangeet School of World Music, The Music Center of L.A., U.C.L.A. and LAMA Music Academy.
In 2003, Cassio was invited by LP (Latin Percussion) to write and perform on the instructional DVD, "Introduction to Brazilian Percussion", which is distributed by Alfred Music Publishing. In 2004, he released the CD “Tempo de Brasil” with his group Braziliando.
Since 2006, Cassio has also been working in Brazil, co-producing and recording on many albums with contemporary artists like Celso Fonseca, Aline Calixto, Arthur Maia, and Grupo Vocal Nosatro. He also performs on jingles and soundtracks. He is currently working on his 1st solo album.
In order to collaborate with artists from all over the world, Cassio put together a website, LivePercussion.com which allows to him work out of his studio on many different projects.
