A native of Albany, New York, Jason Bittner attended Berklee College of Music and played with Stigmata, one of the biggest hardcore bands on the NY scene, for more than 10 years.  In the fall of 2001, Bittner joined Shadows Fall.  For the past 10 years he has toured extensively with the band and released “The Art of Balance,” “The War Within,” (debuted at #38 on Billboard and received a Grammy nomination for Best Metal Performance), “Fallout From the War,”  “Threads of Life” (Grammy nomination for Best Metal Performance), “Retribution” (debuted #28 on Billboard); “Madness in Manilla” (live DVD) and are currently recording their latest album in the fall of 2011.

Bittner has won numerous awards including the 2004 Modern Drummer Reader’s Poll for #1 Up and Coming Drummer; the 2005 Modern Drummer Reader’s Poll for #1 Best Recorded Performance for the Shadows Fall album “The War Within” and #1 Metal drummer; and for the second consecutive year, the 2006 MD reader’s poll for #1 Metal drummer.  Bittner’s book “Drumming out of the Shadows”, co-authored with Joe Bergamini won the #2 award in the 2006 DRUM! magazine reader’s poll for Best Educational book.  In 2007 he was voted #1 Rising Drumming Star and #1 Metal drummer in the DRUM! magazine reader’s poll. Bittner’s educational DVD “What Drives the Beat” also placed #3 in the 2008 MD reader’s poll. Just this past year, Bittner was voted #2 clinician, #2 Live Performer, and #3 Drummer of the Year in the 2011 DRUM! Reader’s Poll. In addition to these awards, he has been the cover feature on multiple US drumming magazines, as well as magazines from all over the world including the UK (he writes a monthly column for RHYTHYM magazine), Germany, Italy, Poland, Japan, and Australia.

When he’s not touring/recording he’s a busy educator and clinician.  He performs clinics all over the world and has a solid teaching roster.  Clinics also give Bittner the opportunity to showcase the other sides of his playing other than just metal and rock.  Thanks to Bittner’s new partnership with the Zildjian, he’s been able to go all over the world this past year and perform clinics from Russia to Australia to Los Angeles, and everywhere in between.

Also in his spare time he does sessions, and performs with his other projects Burning Human, HellSpeak, Dark Day Sunday, and occasionaly still- Stigmata.   Currently he is on the new release “Tokyo Jukebox 2” by Ex-Megadeth guitar god Marty Friedman, and has a few other projects coming out in 2012.  Lastly, the drummer is hard at work compiling information for his next educational DVD and book, which will be released sometime in 2012.
