Educator & Performer
Javier Diaz is a percussionist living in New York City. He has played with Diana Ross, Gladys Knight, Pedro Martinez, Michel Legrand, Sean Kingston, Edmar Castañeda, Lázaro Galarraga, The New York World Music Institute, Ara Oko Folkloric Group among others.
Javier has performed in several Broadway productions including The Lion King, In The Heights and Tarzan. Javier is also well versed in the classical percussion genre and has appeared with several symphony orchestras along with chamber music groups.
Javier has lectured on Afro-Cuban percussion at The Juilliard School, Rutgers University, Paws Music Institute in Los Angeles, the Peabody Conservatory, the Boston Conservatory and at New York University. He currently is Professor of Percussion at the University of Connecticut. He received his B.M. from the University of Southern California, Los Angeles and his M.M. from The Juilliard School, New York.
