Remi Spiro is a multi-percussionist and educator specializing in popular and folkloric music from Cuba. He was born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area, where he grew up studying and performing music alongside and under the mentorship of acclaimed Bay Area Latin musicians. He received a BA in Ethnomusicology at UCLA in 2012 and has since returned to the Bay Area where he spends most of his musical endeavors on his band Soltron, a collective that fuses Afro-Latino music with diverse elements such as hiphop, funk, rock, and electronic music. The band’s music addresses social issues like gentrification and the displacement of communities while also preserving Bay Area musical and cultural traditions. Under the Soltron banner, Remi has performed at the Great American Music Hall, the San Jose Jazz Festival, and has shared the stage with the likes of Ozomatli, David Calzado y Charanga Habanera, and The John Santos Sextet.
