LP Clinics

Posted on August 1st, 2013 by marcia.stevenson

LP is firmly committed to music education. Each month, with the cooperation of retailers and schools, we schedule educational clinics and events with our most talented and knowledgeable endorsing artists.

Many of these events offer free (or very nominal) admission and all are designed to inspire, educate and entertain everyone in attendance. Please check with the event organizer for admission fees and start times.

LP Artists Offer a Unique Brand of Music Education at the Brooklyn Charter School

Posted on March 20th, 2012 by marcia.stevenson

(L to R) Chembo Corniel, Victor Rendón, Omigbade EscaygNew York’s Brooklyn Charter School (BCS) has developed an innovative after-school program that focuses on percussion studies based on musical styles from across the globe, putting students at BCS in a better position to succeed in secondary school and beyond. Under the stewardship of Omigbade Escayg, the Latin Percussion artist also known as “Cascadu” takes students in third through fifth grade on a rich musical journey.

The BCS after-school percussion curriculum has also offered instruction from other renowned LP artists like Grammy-nominated recording artist/percussionist Wilson “Chembo“ Corniel, as well as author and educator, Victor Rendón. The program is now in its fourth year.

“In a world where we must compete to focus children’s attention on learning, it is a huge relief to be able to provide a quality experience that draws them in and positively impacts their lives,” said Mr. Escayg. “ Here the effect is immediate and the transformation happens right before our eyes.”

BCS student performances are well-known throughout the Bedford-Stuyvesant community in Brooklyn, but the school’s musicians have also performed for the Mayor of New York City and the Chancellor of Education. The school’s Brazilian Percussion ensemble has been featured on the popular Fox morning show “Good Morning New York”.

The Brooklyn Charter School shares space with Carter G. Woodson Public School 23; Mr. Escayg and his colleagues have been working hard to include the public school teachers and students in their percussion programs.“The relationship between many New York City Charter schools and their co-located host public schools is strained,” said Escayg. “BCS and PS 23 have forged a partnership with one intention: to provide the best for the child.”

Latin Percussion’s Director of Marketing, Jeff Ivester, applauds the work Mr. Escayg and his staff have done at the Brooklyn Charter School. “LP takes great pride in its Latin American artists,” said Ivester. “We strive to support them in their educational contributions and admire their passion and dedication to introducing these vibrant and traditional genres of music to a new generation of musicians.”
